Working on your statement of purpose for graduate/professional school? Need another set of eyes to look over your statement of purpose? Get help from those who have been in your shoes before and have gotten in.

The statement of purpose is one of the most important pieces of a prospective student’s application to graduate school, and each statement of purpose should be tailored for each program to which a student applies. This part of the application gives an applicant the opportunity to speak directly to the admissions committee. Grammatical mistakes are not an option; your research interests, faculty draw, and potential to create original scholarship are musts. How do you package all of these items into a two-page statement?

Get paired with a current UCLA graduate student or faculty member for a one-on-one session to discuss your statement of purpose. Undergraduate students who participate in this event will be asked to submit drafts of their statement of purpose in advance of the event. Each undergraduate student will be paired with a graduate student/faculty reader based on the type of graduate program s/he is hoping to attend. Graduate student/faculty readers will review statements of purpose in advance of the one-on-one sessions. More information about the timeline and process of submitting statements of purpose for this event will be provided to those who RSVP.

You must submit a draft of a statement of purpose in order to attend this event!

Immediately following this workshop there will be a panel of distinguished guests including current chairs of academic graduate and professional programs who will discuss the best practices for prospective graduate students. For more information, click here!
