Negotiating Academic Job Offers – Best Practices offered by Dean David Schaberg (UCLA Humanities) and Interim Dean Judi Smith (UCLA School of Music)
Thursday, January 19 4-5:30pm | Humanities 193
Registration: https://academicnegotiatinghumanitites2017.eventbrite.com
What should I expect from a tenure track offer? Can I negotiate job offers in the humanities, arts, and “soft” social sciences? What is maneuverable and appropriate for a given institution? And, what is an appropriate tone of the exchange and mode of communication? In short, how can I set myself up to best succeed in a new institution?
It can often be challenging for advisors to have enough experience to give in-depth and contextualized advise in regards to these types of questions. This rare panel will feature two UCLA Deans, David Schaberg and Judi Smith, who have both extended numerous offers, negotiated on behalf of the institution, and retained a number of faculty members. It should be of interest those thinking of or currently on the academic job market to those with an offer in hand, as well as faculty advisors.
This session is offered by the UCLA English Department, The UCLA School of Music, The UCLA Career Center, The UCLA Division of Humanities
