From draped togas to shining armor to silken gowns, HBO’s award-winning drama Game of Thrones transforms diverse historical and geographical sources into costumes that both resonate with what we think we know about the past, and yet is also unfamiliar. As a result, we engage with the characters, prolonging our visual and mental negotiation between the historic and the new.
Join Game of Thrones costume designer and Swarovski Designer-in-Residence Michele Clapton as she discusses the research and inspiration behind her Emmy award-winning costumes for Game of Thrones and why the medieval and Renaissance eras continue to fascinate modern audiences and inspire our imaginations. UCLA professors Deborah Nadoolman Landis (David C. Copley Chair in Costume Design, UCLA TFT), Sharon Gerstel (Art History), Joseph Nagy (English), and Bronwen Wilson (Art History) will engage Ms. Clapton in a discussion on these points.
