The Hear / Now / Then / There lecture series aims to bring together diverse communities of interdisciplinary artists and thinkers, using the university as a meeting ground for ideas, conversation, collaboration and contemplation. The first talk in this series features Jenna Pup and Myriad Slits in a lively conversation about music and performance art in the Music Library Reading Room.

Jenna Pup is a musician and multimedia artist from Philadelphia who uses electronic beat programming, acoustic elements of hardcore and punk, sound collage and words to simultaenously embody rage, hope and trans liberation. She is involved with Get Better Records, a label who releases queer records internationally and pushes back against racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia in the record industry.

Myriad Slits is an artist, musician, educator and organizer from Los Angeles. She is the lead vocalist of the electro punk act Mod Pods as well as a visual and performance artist and kindergarten art teacher. She organizes an underground event called Morton Salt Religious Children’s Revival at the Salton Sea every year for freaks to come together and share new experimental work in an intentionally ephemeral setting.

A reception will immediately follow the event in the Green Room.

Presented by the UCLA Center for Musical Humanities. Co-sponsored by UCLA Arts Initiative and UCLA Division of the Humanities.
