About the Lecture
World literature or global literature is now taught in many universities around the world. But is the concept of world literature fully satisfactory? Does it not impose limitations on the texts we read, and on the very way we are supposed to read? The purpose of this lecture is to show that one of the problems of world literature is precisely linked to the use of the concept of literature, which is historically determined. Is it possible to go beyond this concept, and the practices that come with it, and under what conditions?
