In honor of the 50th Anniversary Celebration and our Fall Welcome, please join the UCLA Department of Comparative Literature for a lecture and reception on October 15, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. in Royce Hall 306 (the Herbert Morris Humanities Seminar Room. Professor Shu-mei Shih (Department of Comparative Literature, Department of Asian Languages and Culture, and the Department of Asian American Studies) will be delivering a lecture on “Comparative Literature in a Relational World.” The lecture will be from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. with a light reception to follow. RSVPs for this event are requested.

Professor Shu-mei Shih received her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from UCLA in 1992 and currently has a joint appointment in Comparative Literature, Asian Languages and Cultures, and Asian American Studies at UCLA. She is the second vice-president of the American Comparative Literature Association, set to assume presidency in 2021-2022. This lecture is part of her current book project, which draws inspiration from several other disciplines, including world history, geography, and sociology, to reconsider the object, scope, and method of comparative literature.
