Do you want to learn what it’s actually like to be a law student or to work in a law firm? Explore opportunities in the field of law and gain valuable insights from individuals representing each stage of the path to a legal profession – from admissions to law school to career. Our panelists will answer questions, give advice, and share their experiences.

This panel will allow you to hear from individuals representing each stage of the path to a legal profession.

About the Panelists:

Desmund Wu is an Assistant Director of Admissions and Manager of Multicultural Recruitment at UCLA Law, where he develops and coordinates programs to effectively recruit underrepresented minority students, including doing outreach and coordinating on and off-campus events.  A 2009 graduate of UCLA Law, he practiced litigation for several years and taught legal writing before entering the law school admissions profession.

Robert Perrin is a partner at Latham & Watkins, LLP and the Co-chair of the Los Angeles Litigation & Trial Department. He focuses on complex business litigation and shareholder litigation. Rob has extensive experience in successfully handling complex business litigation matters from pre-litigation through appeal. He regularly represents companies, financial institutions and corporate officers and directors in securities class actions, shareholder derivative litigation, and mergers and acquisition litigation. Rob came to UCLA for graduate school and received his Master’s in English before pursuing his JD at Yale University.

Erika Schulz is an associate at DLA Piper LLP, where she focuses on complex commercial litigation, class action suits, and unfair business practices. Erika has worked on matters requiring legal, statutory, and medical research. She has also participated in community clinics, such as El Centro Legal’s Landlord Tenant Clinic and Teen Court Clinic, where she gained experience researching housing issues and facilitating early intervention programs for minors facing disciplinary action. Erika received her BA from UCLA with a double major in Classical Civilization and French & Francophone Studies. She completed her JD at the UCLA School of Law in 2016, where she was Class President of the Student Bar Association and a Staff Editor of Entertainment Law Review.

Gary Greener is the Director of Career Services at UCLA School of Law, where he counsels students on all aspects of career development and the job search process. He also interacts with employers and engages in outreach to increase job opportunities for UCLA students. Prior to UCLA, Gary worked for 14 years at Southwestern Law School, where he was the Senior Associate Dean for Career, Admissions and Financial Aid Services. He also has ten years of experience as a practicing lawyer, and served as the hiring partner for a 50 lawyer law firm in Los Angeles. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, a law degree from Southwestern Law School, and an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center.

Drew Diachenko is currently a third-year at the UCLA School of Law. Drew received his BA in History at UCLA. As a first-year at UCLA Law, Drew participated in Moot Court, the El Centro Legal Clinic, and the Lawyer-Client Relationship Clinical Program. In the summer after his first year, Drew was a judicial extern at the United States District Court for the Southern District of California for the Honorable Cynthia Bashant. In his second year, Drew was a Writing Advisor for first-year law students. This past summer, Drew was a summer associate at Latham & Watkins LLP in San Francisco, California. Once he graduates in the spring and (hopefully) passes the California Bar Examination, Drew plans to return to Latham & Watkins LLP as an associate in the fall of 2018.
